App playback data

Playstate reads supported playback information from Music.app, Spotify, VOX, Doppler, VLC, Qobuz, other Mac apps that share their playback with it, and speakers on your local network. Playstate reads embedded covers supplied by VOX and Doppler locally through their Automation integration. It downloads track artwork from the addresses Spotify and other integrated apps provide. When artwork matching is on, Playstate may look up the Qobuz track that’s playing in Qobuz’s catalog to get its artwork. Your audio does not pass through Playstate’s servers. Artwork matching may send track, artist, and album search terms to Apple and Deezer. Recently played saves up to 50 different songs on your Mac. You can clear this list from the menu bar. Diagnostic logs containing recent playback metadata also stay on your Mac, rotate automatically, and are sent nowhere unless you choose to share them for support.

License data

Purchases are processed by Stripe. Playstate stores the purchaser name, email address, payment reference, license identifier, issue date, and license status. The app may periodically send its license identifier—not your music history—to playstateapp.com to check whether that license remains valid. We record when each license was first and last checked, to tell whether a purchased license is in use. Cloudflare may deliver the transactional license email.

Website data

The site may receive standard server request information used for security and reliability. Playstate does not require a marketing account. To see whether our ads work, the site counts per day how many visits arrive from an ad and how many downloads follow. Only those daily totals are kept: no cookie, ad click reference, or other identifier is stored. When you arrive from a Google ad, the download page loads Google’s ad tag with cookies turned off; clicking Download tells Google that the ad click led to a download, using the click reference in the page address. Your name, email, and music history are never shared. We do not sell personal information.

Retention and deletion

Purchase and license records are kept as needed for receipts, fraud prevention, tax, support, and legal obligations. Email privacy@playstateapp.com to request access, correction, or deletion where applicable.

Third parties

Cloudflare hosts the site, license service, and transactional email. Stripe processes payments. Apple, Deezer, Qobuz, and Spotify receive data only as described above when their respective features are used. Their own privacy terms apply.
